Simplify your business plan, making it meaningful and effective!

Merewyn Sayers

A business plan is not just for accessing funding, it is an essential part of running a successful business. It is a vital tool to keep you motivated, focused and fully informed. It keeps you in touch with what your business does and why, making sure you’re catering for your customer’s needs.
Sayers Solutions has found during her extensive time working with small businesses, that the majority just work day-to-day. Whilst they know the answers and information required for the business plan, many don’t go to the extent of documenting it or exploring further.
Due to this, Sayers Solutions has simplified the business plan, helping you focus on the 4 key areas, keeping it relevant to you and your business’s needs.
This plan can be completed on the back of a fag packet or compiled into a bound and finished dossier. However, the most important lesson is that it should not be a one-off exercise. The plan should be ever evolving; a constantly reviewed and updated exercise.

Merewyn Sayers works with small businesses to help them be better at what they do.
Sayers Solutions provides marketing and strategy assistance through coaching, training and consultation, and when required will undertake the implementation of the tactics and research.
Merewyn is always discussing the benefits of digital technologies, providing guidance and reassurance to new adopters. The importance of relationship marketing (building and maintaining relationships with customers and other stakeholders) is always at the forefront of her suggestions and recommendations.
However, Merewyn’s passion lies, as a strategic marketeer, with moving small businesses away from focusing on individual tactics, working in a siloed way. Instead she wants to enable them to build (and follow) an integrated marketing plan, based on knowledge and research about the organisation, market and wider environments. To help them to set goals and objectives, to move the business in the desired direction and most importantly, measure the activity undertaken, influencing future decisions.
Since creating the business in 2011, Merewyn has built a large network of contacts, connecting her with a variety of experts that can be called upon to deliver campaigns and outcomes.
Merewyn is also the Area Leader for the Federation of Small Businesses, a national membership organisation who lobby Government on behalf of small business, as well as providing a wide range of membership benefits. This elected volunteer position essentially provides a conduit between members and the organisation. Amongst much more, Merewyn is involved with identifying, approving and sometimes organising a variety of events including networking, knowledge transference and appearances at expos to engage and benefit the local members.
Whilst on maternity leave in 2013, Merewyn also created the HD8 Network to promote and connect the rural and vibrant area where she lives, reinforcing her keenness for Local and to be a positive influence in the community. To this end she is also a trustee of the Friends of CHaT Parks in Wakefield, a committee member of Denby Dale Pie Hall and working towards becoming a trustee of a local chapel with the aim of converting it back to community building.

How to avoid an Employment Tribunal without alienating your Employees.

Hannah Strawbridge

Businesses with staff are very often torn between what their HR consultant has told them the law is, or what is best practice, versus what the business needs to do. Do you feel the advice you are getting is overly cautious and restrictive? Are you keen to support and engage your staff in a way which allows your business to thrive and grow? Are you frustrated that the two approaches seem mutually exclusive? I will show you that there are ways to drive your business and engage with your staff whilst at the same time balancing legal risk and best practice’.

After completing a Masters Degree in European Law in Prague, Hannah qualified as an Employment Solicitor in 2006. She then began her career at Weightmans LLP where she worked in-house at a FTSE 100 Company, supporting the senior HR team. After having moved to Manchester, she spent 10 years working for a large global organisation, where she defended tribunal claims on behalf of SME businesses and conducted her own advocacy. One of Hannah’s career highlights included successfully defending a college in respect of multiple claims of race and sex discrimination, unfair dismissal and breach of contract during a 17-day hearing. Whilst raising two boys, Hannah moved in-house to Anchor Trust, the UK’s largest care home and housing association provider. There she worked closely with the Board advising on employment law policy, which impacted strategy.

Hannah was later headhunted for then role of Senior Associate at DWF in Manchester, where she led the insured employment team, and then she became Head of Employment for a firm in Huddersfield.

Hannah recently set up her own Company, Little Pig 3 Limited, based in Halifax, and is now a non-practising Solicitor, in order to provide a more modern, personable and strategic approach to employment law and HR support for her business clients. She is also a consultant Employment Solicitor for the commercial law firm Paddle & Cocks, which has a national presence.
